“But wait!”, I hear you say. “The Cellar Table with Dermot Sugrue and Mark Hix isn’t until May!”
Fear not—you are correct. We are hosting a fabulous dinner with our friends and partners at Sugrue South Downs on Saturday 9th May. If you’re quick, you might even still be able to get tickets for it here. We just happened to be fortunate enough to have been invited to another dinner cooked by Mark at Bee Tree Vineyard, so thought we’d go along for research purposes. And the sword was already in the car.
We pitched up, and were warmly greeted by Callum and Amy (Stanley greeted Amy perhaps too warmly, giving her the gift of muddy footprints). Amy had demonstrated her sabrage prowess when we came to the vineyard a few weeks earlier, so it was Callum’s turn, and he effortlessly opened the first bottle of The Trouble With Dreams MV. Mark then emerged and expressed curiosity, which was all the encouragement we needed; a mere minute later he too put a bottle of TWD to the sword, to the surprise and delight of the assembled guests.

We then sat down to a truly wonderful seasonal banquet featuring ingredients that Mark and his team had foraged. Each course was perfectly and generously paired to a superb Sugrue South Downs wine. There was much eating, drinking, and being merry. So don’t forget that, if you want to have an experience like this yourself, it’s (probably) not too late to sign up for the Silver Sword Cellar Table dinner in May, where master winemaker Dermot Sugrue will also be joining the party, and showing off his own sabrage skills…
