We were humbled and delighted to find that places at our Founders’ Dinner sold out in a matter of hours. It took place at Buck’s Club, an exclusive private members’ Club in Mayfair. Buck’s was the ideal venue for our first dinner, not just because the setting is superb, the staff are delightful, and the food is sensational—but because they already have their own sword behind the bar that members can borrow to try their hands at sabrage, and collection of sabrage corks on the doorway leading from the bar to the gallery!
A wonderful, diverse mix of guests gathered in the gallery to learn or practise sabrage, meet some of our Founding Partners, try some of their wines, and learn about their stories so far. We then proceeded upstairs, where we completely filled both the Buckmaster Room and the adjoining Captain’s Room. We had a delicious dinner accompanied by more of our Partners’ wines, and attendees kindly provided feedback on a number of questions we posed about the purpose of The Society of the Silver Sword, how it should operate, what sort of events they’d like to see, and so on. Conversation and wine flowed for several hours, and not a single bottle of sparkling wine was opened in the conventional manner.
The Club doesn’t permit photos or videos, so those of us who attended will make do with many happy memories—and those of you who missed out will just have to come to the next one, as one piece of feedback we received that was very clear was that this should be a regular event in our calendar!
